RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s global ranking in the speed of Internet soared from105th position to 10th globally within three years, according to Eng. Nasser Al-Nasser, CEO of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) Group.
“The Internet speed of STC has also multiplied seven times during the same period from 2016 to end of 2019,” he said while quoting the assessments of the specialized international references in the classification, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Al-Nasser said the Kingdom has become a global pioneer in the field of communication infrastructure in general and digital communications in particular.
“The Kingdom has achieved over the years, with the support of the wise leadership, a very advanced infrastructure of optical fibers in the services of the fourth and fifth generations.
“All telecommunications companies are working together to provide the digital services at the highest speed for the sectors of health, distance learning, remote work, and home entertainment,” he noted.
Al-Nasser said STC network is currently witnessing a growth in traffic for education and health platforms that have been made available for free.
The demand growth rate for distance education has reached 1,000 percent, 200 percent for health platforms, 300 percent for electronic gaming platforms and 132 percent for TV content.
Furthermore, the growth rate for remote work for various sectors has reached more than 1,128 percent,” he said, adding that STC will bear the cost of the temporary service suspension fees for SME services on behalf of small and medium-sized enterprises that wish to temporarily suspend their services until the end of April 2020.
